My friend and I went to a weird artsy dinner event a few months ago. I couldn’t remember much of the details but my friend still does vividly.
I only remember how awkward it was. When I tried to tell this story to others, my friend needed to fill in the details for me. “Ah I couldn’t remember much, it was a long time ago,” I was thinking to myself.
Then I was talking to my mom about the holiday that we took to Budapest 3 years ago. I still remember every little details, from the shirt that my mom was wearing to her expression as we explored the city together for the first time. It was a long time ago!
It is funny how our mind works. There are some memories that feel so close to me – I could just grab it, while the rest is fading away.
Maybe there is no such thing as a long time ago. There are only memories that mean something, and memories that don’t.
