One of my goal in life is to build a company of my own. However, I do not have any experience or expertise in starting a business from scratch. So when Founder Institute* opened their Winter program in Berlin this year, I applied right away.
I submitted the written application with essays and completed their Predictive Admissions Assessment, contains either puzzles or personality questions. Two weeks later, I got the notification that I got accepted to the program.
So cool! So excited!
One problem though: I could not afford it.
I was not in a good financial condition to pay $999 USD for the course fee. So before dropping out of the program, I decided to do one last thing: ask. I asked for a fellowship.
A few days later, they got back to me with a few assignments that I need to complete within 2 days in order to be eligible for the fellowship. I finished those tasks in time.
Then, the next thing I could do was just to wait for the result & let go of my expectation. I did try my best. If it does not work out, it’s also okay. A good friend always said this to me:
“Every time you’re in the water is a good practice”.
The process went pretty fast. I got the answer the next day that confirms my enrollment to the program. Now, I’ve been in it for 2 weeks and woah, what a ride! I did my first pitch, connected to awesome mentors, met new friends, did market research, and a lot more to come.
Looking back now, this wouldn’t have happened if I was too ashamed to ask. I guess sometimes it’s really just as simple as that.
